Week 1
|
This introductory unit includes activities directed at creating positive interpersonal relationships within the classroom. The genres of fantasy writing and story telling are explored through "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and various folk tales.
Summative Assessment A Radio Play based on an original myth is written and recorded on tape. |

This unit is designed for one lesson per week throughout the semester. A writing workshop will be held in this lesson each week to determine aspects of grammar which need more work. Students are required to keep a Scrapbook which focuses on youth especially in relation to myths and legends, stereotypes and the media, Australian youth and immigration issues. |

The emigrant experience and the creation of particular Australian identities is explored through poetry and other genres and forms of socio-historical representations of Australia and Australians.
Formative Assessment Deconstruct images, ballads, lyrics, dramatic monologues and song. Reconstruct poetry in form of letters, interviews and articles. Write poetry and reconstruct poems in the form of a "play for voices" as performance poetry. |
